Reset : Somatic + Nervous System
Our Reset event cultivates an understanding of our nervous system through embodied experience, using horses as mirrors and co-regulators—without performance, fixing, or force.
Morning: Group Arrival & Introduction
Late Morning: Horse Observation
Afternoon: Experiential Horse Interaction
Late Afternoon: Integration
Horses help regulate the human nervous system because they’re highly sensitive, calm, and present animals. Their slow breathing, steady movement, and immediate feedback invite our bodies to shift out of stress and into a more regulated state—often without talking or trying. Simply being near a horse can help the nervous system feel safer, grounded, and more connected.
Horses and humans share remarkably similar nervous system wiring. Both are social mammals whose bodies are constantly scanning for safety or threat, and both rely on felt sense more than words to understand the world. Long before cognition kicks in, the body decides am I safe right now?
Like humans, horses regulate through:
Connection – Neither species thrives in isolation. Regulation happens through proximity, attunement, and shared rhythm.
Co-regulation – Horses naturally help one another return to calm through breath, posture, and herd dynamics—just as humans do in healthy relationships.
Somatic awareness – Horses live almost entirely in body-based awareness. Tension, relaxation, curiosity, and fear show up immediately in their posture, breath, and movement—mirroring how emotions live in the human body.
State-dependent behavior – A horse’s behavior changes based on nervous system state, not intention or story. Humans are the same; our reactions are often nervous-system driven, not character flaws.
Because horses respond to what’s happening inside us rather than what we say, they make the invisible visible. They offer honest, nonjudgmental feedback that helps humans notice their own internal state—and gently learn how to shift it.
