Freedom Reins Program

*If you do not wish to ride, there are continued opportunities throughout the program to be involved.

*Veterans are also invited to observe sessions if participation is not accessible — this is a community, we have space for anyone wanting to be a part of the experience.

This program is designed as a structured, progressive curriculum in which each level builds on the previous one. Participants advance through clearly defined phases, developing horsemanship skills alongside measurable gains in emotional regulation, confidence, and communication.

Our goal is to equip veterans with practical skills, education, and hands-on experience that can translate into continued involvement in the equine industry and broader workforce readiness. Throughout the program, participants demonstrate growth in areas such as increased self-confidence, improved focus, reduced anxiety, and the ability to safely and effectively interact with horses.

This is not a one-time or short-term experience. While each level is delivered in a structured format, the program is designed for ongoing engagement. Veterans who complete all levels are eligible to join the Freedom Reins Trail Riding Group, providing a continued pathway for connection, peer support, and skill application beyond the initial program.

To expand impact, we partner with professionals from the local equine community to deliver specialized instruction. Participants gain experience in multiple disciplines—including hoof care, groundwork, and liberty training—broadening both their technical knowledge and potential vocational pathways. This collaborative model extends program reach beyond the arena and strengthens integration within the greater Treasure Valley community.

Through Therapeutic Horsemanship, we entrust horses to show us the way.  By experiencing growth and progress through horses, veterans are reached through more personalized methods.  Physical movement, environmental freedom, nature and herd-care practices produce a holistic approach and provides veterans an opportunity to rebuild and reconnect.
